iam8bit to release the Tell Me Why soundtrack on vinyl

iam8bit have just launched preorders for the vinyl soundtrack to the episodic adventure game Tell Me Why.

The release will be a single LP on red vinyl. It will be housed in a single-pocket jacket with quilt-themed embossed artwork by Theo Randall.

It is priced at $40 and is scheduled to release in Q1 2022. It can be preordered from iam8bit here.

This feels like a very 90s kinda thing - but in the best possible way. All tracks are from different techno artists, but - like with the wipEout compilations - it just works. There's not a bad track on this album. Sure it's definitely music from a different time, but it still holds up! The 2LP here is just about half of the full soundtrack, which is still only on CD, but it is certainly a strong selection of music nonetheless. You put out another! And sadly that was the last of it. I still imagine the garage-themed box set that could've been had they kept doing these. Like the first Drift Stage record the tracks from Myrone on this one are both great as well. (@stsphonoco), 2021 Game(s): Crawlco Block Knockers Artwork: Mike Luckas (@stupiddeadskullhead) A game heavily inspired by sleazy Japanese puzzle games of the 80s and 90s that will gradually reveal pictures of scantily clad women as you progress. Not your thing? Please don't let that deter you from checking out it's groovy synth-funk soundtrack. Very much in the game's spirit it comes in a die-cut jacket that will show off bits of the insert within and - quite literally - block the knockers, which are very much present on the insert itself (not shown here). And it's not like the back cover is subtle about what the game is about either. Regardless of whether you're into the naughty nature of the game and the artwork on this release, the soundtrack itself is a banger that shouldn't be slept on.   • Album: Cult Of The Lamb Original Soundtrack Artist(s): River Boy (@riverboybeats) Label: Laced Records (@laced_audio) / Devolver Digital (@devolverdigital), 2023 Game(s): Cult Of The Lamb (@cultofthelambofficial) Artwork: Carles Dalmau (@carles_dalmau) Didn't really know what to expect when I put this on the first time as I hadn't played the game, but it sure wasn't these chill beats to sacrifice cuddly villagers to. Needless to say I'm all up for that. It's a really good and interesting soundtrack that I've put on quite a lot since getting it and it works perfectly even when you haven't played the game. The artwork from the game's artist Carles Dalmau is top notch with its lovely outer and grim inner artwork! And of course the red and black splatter discs too came out great. It's a lovely package all around, but it's unfortunately sold out right now.   • Album: Deltarune Chapter 1 Soundtrack Artist(s): Toby Fox Label: Fangamer (@fangamercom), 2019 Game(s): Deltarune Chapter 1 Artwork: ADE / あで A game set in an alternate and/or connected world to Undertale, the first chapter of Deltarune dropped a bit out of nowhere in late 2018. Like with Undertale the game'sc creator Toby Fox did the vast majority of music for Deltarune. The chiptune style is somewhat similar, so if you like one you'd probably like the other too. Visually the release is a treat with great new artwork by ADE on both the jacket and printed inners. As a neat little bonus it also comes with a set of holographic stickers of in-game characters, art and symbols.   • Album: SNK Game Music Artist(s): SNK Electronics Sound Team Label: G.M.O. Records, 1987 Game(s): Ikari Warriors II: Victory Road, Athena, Tank (TNK III), Ikari Warriors, Alpha Mission Time for another G.M.O. release! This one covers 5 SNK arcade games from the mid-80s. It's not my favorite collection of tunes, but there's still some solid stuff in there. Particularly the Ikari Warriors theme is catchy and tends to get randomly stuck in my head at times.   • Album: Scarlet Nexus Artist(s): Hayata Takeda Label: Bandai Namco (@bandainamcoeu), 2021 Game(s): Scarlet Nexus Wasn't sure what to expect from this, but I was pleasantly surprised at how good this mix of electronic and orchestral tracks. It's just a small selection of a much larger soundtrack, but the picks feel solid nonetheless. There was some small issues with it as Bamco announced it is being red and black vinyl + it was meant to feature one more track. Minor things in the grand scheme, but it was never acknowledged.   • Album: Mooseman Soundtrack Artist(s): Mikhail Shvachko (@mikhailshvachko) Label: Red Art Games (@redartgames), 2021 Game(s): The Mooseman Short but beautiful soundtrack to a quite interesting looking game. The Mooseman is inspired by mythology and folklore from the Komi people in the Perm region of Russia, which certainly isn't your everyday setting. As such the music also takes inspiration from Komi folk music and even uses a student choir from the Perm region for its choral parts. The pressing is limited to just 300 numbered copies, but seemingly it didn't sell that well as you can occasionally find it for sale for quite cheap. It was released for free digitally by Capcom and Marvel in anticipation of the digital release of the game for Xbox 360 and PS3. The vinyl pressing is limited to 200 copies and was available at Capcom's fighting games panel as well as from their merch booth (as a "free" giveaway to people who spent more than $500 (!!) there) during SDCC 2009. That's PopSlinger and it got a gorgeous vinyl release a few years back. There's not a bunch of bonus stuff included, but the art, colors and music just goes extremely well hand-in-hand.   • Album: The Revenge Of Shinobi Artist(s): Yuzo Koshiro Label: Data Discs (@datadiscs), 2017 Game(s): The Revenge Of Shinobi A Mega Drive/Genesis classic action game - and with a great soundtrack as well. It was Yuzo Koshiro's first soundtrack commissioned by Sega and you can absolutely hear his influences from dance music here already, even if The Revenge Of Shinobi still sounds a little more "video game-y" (is that a thing?) compared to his later works on the Streets Of Rage series. This is the original 2017 pressing from Data Discs, which was sourced directly from Mega Drive hardware. It comes with an insert with the cover art on one side and new liner notes by Yuzo Koshiro on the other. Since this vinyl release came out, Koshiro discovered his original files for the music and had them remastered for the new vinyl edition, which released earlier this year.   • Album: Ultimate Chicken Horse Original Soundtrack Artist(s): Vibe Avenue (@vibeavenuemusic) Label: Debug Records, 2020 Game(s): Ultimate Chicken Horse A massively underrated banger of an album. Jazz, funk, prog?! This soundtrack is as diverse as the amounts of traps you can lay for your friends in the game. Came out on Debug Records back in the early days of COVID and is limited to just 300 copies that also came with a game character sticker sheet. It sold somewhat slowly, but is long gone now.   • Album: I'll Keep Coming / Easy Way Out Artist(s): Low Roar (lowroar) Label: Mondo (@mondonews), 2017 Game(s): Death Stranding Artwork: Randy Ortiz (@randyortizdtd) This 12" dropped in early 2017 following Death Stranding's announcement at E3 2016 and comes with the song "I'll Keep Coming" from said trailer alongside the song "Easy Way Out" both by Low Roar (RIP...). Both songs were eventually included in the game and also released on a separate vinyl release featuring the game's licensed songs. But seeing as the game didn't release until late 2019 that one was still a ways out when Mondo dropped this 12". There may not be a lot on this release, but what's there is great. To be honest I care very little about the games he's scored - but the music? Great stuff! Wasn't super familiar with his music before picking up this beauty. Great electronic score with killer artwork and a lovely colorway. Ticks all the boxes. It led me to check out his great work on the Hannibal TV show and his earlier score for Red Faction: Armageddon, both of which are also really good. Catchy as hell theme song from the game Bugsnax, which was featured in the game's announcement trailer way back in 2020 and was released on this 7" shortly after the game came out. Made with strawberry screen print on the b-side and (very slightly) strawberry scented as well. So wild that you could get officially sanctioned Nintendo arrangement albums. And those albums could be wild too. Like this one - in all its cheesy 80s synth glory. It tries out a lot of things and while it can be hit or miss it's at the very least always fun.   • Album: Ghost Giant Soundtrack Artist(s): Joel Bille (@joelbulle) & Bortre Rymden (@bortrerymden) Label: Perp Games (@perpgames), 2019 Game(s): Ghost Giant What a gem. Cozy folksy vibes. The good soundtrack not only to a VR game, but a great soundtrack to being home alone, reading a book, contemplating. Nothing captures the feeling of the soundtrack better than the title of the track "Mitt Happyplace När Världen Står I Brand" - literally: "my happy place when the world is on fire". It's not one I can listen to on repeat, but for the specific vibe mentioned above there's nothing quite like it. It's a pressing of just 200 copies launched alongside physical PS4 copies of the game (but at least available for purchase on its own).   • Album: Pulstar The Definitive Soundtrack Artist(s): Harumi Fujita Label: Brave Wave (@bravewavemusic), 2019 Game(s): Pulstar I'm quite conflicted with this release. The compositions are great, the packaging is nice and the booklet with Fujita breaking down each track is excellent... But the AES version of the soundtrack on disc 1 is so poor quality. And I don't mean the pressing, but the actual music. Thankfully the release is redeemed by the inclusion of the Neogeo CD version of the soundtrack on disc 2, which is straight up fantastic. I remember getting to disc 2 on my first listen and immediately thinking "this is how it should sound!".   • Album: Colours Artist(s): Rafael Dyll & Kordian Więcek Label: eastasiasoft (@eastasiasoft), 2019 Game(s): Rainbow Skies, Rainbow Moon, Last Hope, The Ghost Blade Artwork: M-Create (@mcreateagentur) A piano arrangement album of music from a handful of eastasiasoft games all newly arranged by original composer Rafael Dyll and performed by pianist Kordian Więcek. The album was available via a Kickstarter campaign back in 2018 with just 100 vinyl copies having been pressed. Not pictured here, but it also came with a sheet music booklet. The campaign reached its stretch goal to include a few more tracks from other games scored by Dyll, but those were eventually left out of the vinyl press due to it otherwise being too long.
