Data Discs have just hit us all with a massive surprise release. They are going to release the original Japanese soundtrack to Sonic CD on vinyl.
The tracklist have been newly arranged based around the game’s time zones and will differ from previous releases of this soundtrack.
The release will be a 180g 3LP. It comes in a heavy single pocket sleeve with game art. It includes three art prints with art from Sega’s archives and liner notes by composer Naofumi Hataya.
As always there will be three different color variants – a limited edition with one disc on blue-in-clear vinyl with green splatter, one disc on green-in-clear vinyl with blue splatter, and one on blue vinyl. There will also be a blue colored vinyl variant and a classic black vinyl variant. All variants will feature an etching on side F.
Wayô Records announced a while back that they would be releasing a selection of music from the Skies Of Arcadia soundtrack on vinyl and now they’re taking preorders.
Outside of original music the release will also feature an extra LP with new piano arrangements of music from the game.
The release will be a 180g 3LP box set. The records will come in individual printed sleeves with artwork and the box set will feature new artwork by Itsuki Hoshi. The first limited print of the box set will feature 2 LPs on marbled blue vinyl (limited to 500 copies), while the regular print will feature 2LPs on opaque blue vinyl. The third LP for both sets will be on black vinyl.
The box set will also come with a 24-page booklet featuring artwork and comments from the original team behind the game.
The first 250 preorders will also receive an shikishima board with the cover art illustration.
Data Discs teased it late last year and finally confirmed a release date a few day ago. That day is now and orders for their Thunder Force IV (known in the US as Lightening Force) release are now open.
The release will be a 3LP and as usual it will be available in three variants. They will have a limited edition blue, black and grey swirl colored vinyl variant, an opaque blue vinyl variant, and a classic black vinyl variant.
The set will also come with a lithographic print and a fold-out poster with game art. Furthermore, it will not only contain the full game soundtrack, but also 10 unused “omake” tracks.
It was announced in their newsletter last year that Data Discs would release the soundtrack to Space Harrier, but it wasn’t until earlier this week that the details of the release were announced.
The release will include the full arcade soundtrack for the game, but also includes an arrangement of the game’s main theme performed by the S.S.T. Band.
The release will be a single 45RPM 180g LP. It will be housed in a single pocket jacket with original game artwork. It will feature an OBI, a lithographic print of the front art and liner notes by composer Hiroshi Kawaguchi.
As usual Data Discs will offer 3 different color variants for the release – a limited edition green translucent with purple splatter that has a special 3D lenticular jacket, a dark green translucent, and a classic black vinyl version.
As a little bonus 50 randomly chosen copies preordered within the first 48 hours will be signed by composer Hiroshi Kawaguchi.
The release is priced at £20 for the standard versions, and £27 for the limited edition. It is scheduled to release around May 31, 2018.
Data Discs have just announced that they will be releasing Hiroshi Kawaguchi’s arcade soundtrack to After Burner II on vinyl. Not only that, but it will feature an extra disc with arranged versions from the SST Band.
The release will be a 2LP cut at 45RPM. As always there will be three color variants available – a limited edition blue & purple swirl, a purple opaque, and a classic black. It’s housed in a single-pocket heavyweight jacket and comes with a foldout poster with the original game art.
The release will be priced at £25 and is scheduled to release in March 2018.
Preorders will open on February 24, 2018 at 7PM UK time via Data Discs’ store here.
Remember that you can get access to the store a little earlier by signing up for Data Discs’ newsletter.
In mid-December last year Brave Wave announced that they would be releasing a Panzer Dragoon Saga arrangement album titled “Resurrection: Panzer Dragoon Saga 20th Anniversary Arrangement“. Well, now it’s almost here!
What’s really interesting is that the arrangement is done by the original soundtrack’s composer Saori Kobayashi. In an interview with The Verge Kobayashi has stated that: “I was able to achieve the kind of music that I wanted to do 20 years ago“.
Also present on this new arrangement is Eri Ito, Triforce Quartet, and Maho Azuma.
The vinyl release will be a 2LP on lilac colored vinyl. It will be housed in a gatefold jacket with artwork by Katsumi Yokota with additional design by Cory Schmitz. The release will include a booklet with essays and liner notes by people who worked on the game as well as archival artwork.
