Shinobi III: Return Of The Ninja Master, Super Hang-On, Out Run, and Streets Of Rage 2 have been officially confirmed to be released on vinyl by Data Discs.
Shinobi III and Streets Of Rage 2 had already been confirmed via comments on social media, but this is the first major announcement with new information that they’ve had.
Coming up first is Shinobi III: Return Of The Ninja Master. The soundtrack by Hirofumi Murasaki, Morihiko Akiyama and Masayuki Nagao will come in three color variants – classic black, oxblood, and oxblood/bone split. The album will furthermore feature an OBI strip and a foldout poster with original artwork. It will be available to order from October 2, 2015 and from the sound of it, these are ready to ship – no mentions of pre-ordering.
Next up is Super Hang-On. The soundtrack by Koichi Namiki, Katsuhiro Hayashi and Shigeru Ohwada will come in two different variants – classic black, and opaque tricoulor segment vinyl. The album will feature an OBI strip, a die-cut cover and a printed innersleeve and will be cut at 45 RPM. Pre-orders for this will open in early November, 2015 and are expected to ship out in December.
As for fan favorites Out Run and Streets of Rage 2 there are not many specific news other than these are expected to be released in 2016.
Overall a good amount of exciting news for vgm vinyl fans.
It will include brand new remastered tunes from Oddworld: New n’ Tasty as well as new mixes from the original Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee on what looks like a grey colored vinyl. As a bonus it will include a poster, a Steam code for the Oddworld: New n’ Tasty game, and the full soundtrack to the game as well as the soundtrack to the original Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee.
It will be revealed at the EGX event in Birmingham, UK this weekend. It will be released by Black Screen Records. Release date, price, pressing numbers, and where to buy is yet to be disclosed but stay tuned!
A listing from Square Enix’s Japanese Store have just confirmed that a picture disc vinyl record with music from Final Fantasy VIII will be released on vinyl with an estimated release date of December 21st, 2015.
According to the listing it is a selection of music from the game and the tracks are chosen by composer Nobuo Uematsu himself. The listing doesn’t mention if it’s a 2LP like the Final Fantasy VII vinyl release was or if it is just a single LP.
The Japanese store will only ship within Japan itself, but seeing how the Final Fantasy VII release was also available in the European stores I think that it’s fair to remain optimistic that it will be available outside Japan later on.
UPDATE: I’ve been in touch with Square Enix Merch EU customer support, who, when asked if they were planning on releasing this outside Japan, told me that they were “considering the option”.
Well, this was actually announced well over a week ago, but I’ve been a bit unaware. Oh well, better late than never!
